1997-1998 | Detroit Red Wings Jersey (Red)

Larry Murphy's 1997-1998 season with the Detroit Red Wings was a memorable one for both its successes on the ice and the challenges the team faced off it. Murphy was a key player for the Red Wings that year, finishing the regular season with 11 goals and 41 assists and a plus/minus rating of +35 in 82 games. He was also recognized for his strong play by being selected to the NHL All-Star Game and finishing sixth in Norris Trophy voting. However, the season was marked by the devastating injury to Vladimir Konstantinov, who suffered a career-ending spinal cord injury in a limousine accident just days after the team won the 1997 Stanley Cup. The incident had an emotional toll on the Red Wings. In the playoffs, Murphy played in all 22 games, contributing three goals and 12 assists, winning his second consecutive Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings. Following this sweep, Murphy had won 16 straight Stanley Cup Finals games - a record that still stands today.
