Larry Murphy was a skilled defenseman who played for the Detroit Red Wings from 1997 to 2001. He was acquired by the team midway through the 1996-1997 season and played a key role in the team's championship runs in 1997 and 1998. Murphy was known for his offensive abilities and his ability to quarterback the power play, and he finished his time with the Red Wings with 45 goals and 179 assists in 318 regular season games played. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004.
